Begin your journey
A spiritual director helps the directee notice where God has been showing up in their everyday and interior lives. It is a form of “holy listening” that has been in place since ancient Christianity, where the seeker explores their own spiritual journey. In spiritual direction, there are three involved – the seeker, the Holy Spirit and the director.
A spiritual director does not offer psychological counseling, psychotherapy, solve problems nor give advice. They are a companion on the journey of the directee.
Commonly Asked Questions
WHEN MIGHT SPIRITUAL DIRECTION BE APPROPRIATE?
Many of us have a general longing for something more in life – but are not sure what this means or how to satisfy that desire in our day to day “ordinary life”. There may be times when our prayer life feels “stuck” or seems to run dry and we don’t know what to do. We may be faced with making important decisions and are unsure about how to discern our choices. We may experience a transition – at work, in relationships, in a traumatic event such as illness or in suffering a loss --and are thrown off our spiritual track. Any of these reasons are good ones for seeking spiritual direction.
how often are meetings?
Spiritual Direction is monthly for 50 minutes.
WHAT PREPARATION IS NEEDED FOR MONTHLY SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?
Preparation will be discussed with the directee at the first meeting and will be specific each person with the caveat that spiritual direction is not something that a directee just “shows up” to.
is there a cost to participate?
A session is typically $75. However, if this is prohibitive for you, please pay what you are comfortable with.
